JB & Sons is a new Freshwater small bar, from the duo that brought you Hemingway’s in Manly. Paul Fraser and George McLean named their venue in honour of 72-year-old lifelong Freshy local, John Burgess. “This colourful character always chewed our ear off about his ideal bar,and this is our best attempt to build one for him” Fraser says.
Embracing the recent trend in gourmet burgers, and craft beer, JB & Sons does a great job of maximising the space of this small venue. Located within a small shopping mall/centre, JB’s has quasi US Diner, look and feel about it. With long leather banquettes, polished concrete floors, timber tabletops/stools, and red chequered napkins.
Beverage-wise, JB & Sons sports 4 x rotating craft beer taps, with the likes of 4 Pines & Murrays making regular appearances. There’s also a good section of local/imported tinnies and bottles – from Melbourne Bitter, Brewcult, Coors, Corona, and Sierra Nevada. Theres a tasty selection of house, and seasonal, cocktails – such as the Roasted Pineapple Hombre (Don Julio Blanco | Cointreau | Vanilla) or the Spiced Mandarin Sour (Dickel | All Spice | Fresh Mandarin | Lemon). On the wine front, you can expect to sample a selection of both local, and imported vino’s from Venezia (ITA), Marlborough (NZ), Barossa Valley (SA) and the Hunter Valley (NSW).
The US Diner theme really shines with the delicious food selections on offer. Including tasty snacks/starters like Guacamole, Baja Fish & Pulled Pork Taco’s, or Chopped Salad to larger fare burgers like The Papi, Son Of A Gun, and Mr. Carney (Roasted Portobello Mushroom | Iceberg | Tomato | Tzatziki | Aioli).
