Rodney’s Bait n’ Tackle – Mosman Park

Rodney’s Bait n Tackle is a new nautical themed small bar, that recently opened in the Western Perth suburb of Mosman Park.

The brainchild of bartender-cum-barista Nathan Nisbet, and his buddy Scott Kociuruba, the fit out of Rodney’s was designed to suit its location of being positioned half-way between the river, and the sea.

Featuring polished timber floors, aqua-marine tiled walls, lashings of nautical chandlery, and a very impressive centrepiece of a refurbished, 1940’s, river Commodore cruiser – which the boys found languishing on a storm-worn ocean mooring. They then spent the next few years renovating it back to its former glory, where it now assumes pride of place as a functioning bar. Be sure to ask the boys how they got the boat into the building – theres definitely a story there!

As you enter the venue, there’s a small stage area, where you can expect to hear intimate live acoustic sets, upbeat gypsy swing, or some smooth jazz vibes from one of Asia’s finest jazz pianists – the Don Gomes Trio. In between the live sets, you can expect to hear some old skool vinyl classics being spun.

Beverage-wise, the lads have all bases covered well. From the 4 x (rotating) craft beer taps – currently sporting the likes of Sierra Nevada, Eagle Bay, Horn Brothers Perth Draught, and Pirate Life. There’s also another half dozen bottled varieties, including cider.

If Vino’s more your thing, there’s a very decent selection of over 20 x local, and imported, whites and reds, to choose from. Including New Zealand Sauv Blancs, South Australian Chardonnays, Italian Pinot Gris, Barossa Cabernet, French Shiraz, and a very interesting looking Margaret River Zinfandel (a variety usually found in California’s Napa region).

If you’re feeling a little peckish, there’s a compact selection of bar snacks, including Cheese Platters, Pizza, Toasted Ham & Brie rolls, Trio of Dips, Freo Sardines, and some delicious looking home made Beef/Lamb Pies.

After you’ve kicked back, listed to a few tunes, knocked off a few Sierra Nevada’s, tucked into a tasty home made pie, and admired the nautical fit out, there’s a very high chance you’ll have a hankering to actually head out for a fish. Well fear not, the boys have got you covered there as well – selling squid and prawn fishing bait, and word is, a supply of fishing tackle will be also available for purchase very soon!
