Side Car – Cremorne
## UPDATE – THIS BAR IS NOW CLOSED ##
Their liquor licence was a long time coming, but it was worth the wait, with Side Car finally opening their doors in late Dec 14.
This relative new comer to the Lower North Shore small bar scene, is part of the rapidly growing empire of mother, daughter and son team Jan, Lauren and Robbie Fazey (who also own the upstairs barber shop Sweeney’s, the popular hipster café Bread & Butter out the back, and the next door homewares store Warehouse Four Ten).
Located in a renovated, terrace house, this long, narrow, 60 x patron small bar faces onto Military Road, a few doors down from from the Orpheum cinema. Upstairs, theres a shared space for pop-up art/fashion events, and Sweeney’s cut throat barber shop. Out the back, there’s a large (shared) courtyard, which is used for functions and special events.
Side Car’s fit out is uncannily similar to long standing Colonial themed small bar The Cotton Thief (located not more than 100m down Military Road). With an eclectic, lo-fi mix of comfy old leather chesterfields, raw timber, antique side-boards, heritage light fittings, topped off by colonial styled pictures and accessories.
Beverage-wise, Side Car’s main area’s of focus is Bourbon, Single-Malt Whisky and Craft Beer (with a close affiliation to Newtown’s Young Henrys – who’s small batch brews can regularly be found on tap or Growler). There are weekly cocktail specials, with part-owner Robbie Fazey indicating the long term plan being to hold regular Brand Ambassador tasting nights where punters can come in and gain a better appreciation of the spirits on offer at Side Car.
Foodwise, there’s a selection of tasty bar snacks on offer such as pork tacos, sliders, chicken wings, meatballs, charcuterie plates, house pickles and dips.
On Sundays, Side Car plays host to live acoustic sets from 5pm, and happy hour(s) from 5pm – 8pm.
