The Dominion League – Perth
The Dominion League was founded with one goal in mind – the secession of Western Australia from the rest of the Commonwealth.
League members campaigned and cajoled and, in 1933, the WA government held a referendum on the matter. The result was a vote 2:1 in favour of secession.
But that didn’t settle it. Legal technicalities meant the Commonwealth Government also had to agree with WA’s move to secede…They didn’t.
Like that passionate mob who went before the, The Dominion League small bar is fiercely proud of their fine state.
The venue features both a street level bar and a downstairs basement bar. On the ground level there is a distinct focus on WA drinks, downstairs in the cocktail bar there isn’t a focus on any particular product.
The bar takes over the Court Wine Bar space on Perth’s Beaufort Street, which the owners, Hamish Fleming and Siobhan Blumann (Mrs Brown’s Bar, Mechanics Institute) purchased last year. The space has a long history at the heart of WA political life, with politicians, journalists, police and lawyers regularly stopping by.
