Wilcox – Cammeray
Taking its name from the former, family owned Butcher shop that occupied the space, Wilcox has been completely transformed into an elegant 60 x person small bar.
Co-owned by Glenn Stalley and business partner Carlo Maggio (who’s family have owned the building for 86 years), Wilcox has a decent wine and cocktail selection, with a nice variation on a dirty martini using sweet caper brine, and caper berries. Beer wise, there’s 4 x taps (2 x craft), and a compact selection of bottles.
Executive chef, Andrew Talese, has designed a food menu that covers all the bases. With bar snacks such as Calamari, Wagyu Beef sliders, and Quinoa, Zucchini and Haloumi fritters, to full main courses such as Squid Ink Risotto, Atlantic Salmon and Cape Grim Beef Fillet.
Back in September 2013 when news of this small bar first hit the streets, the bar was due to be called ‘Wilcox & Co’. Yet there a minor controversy after a ‘misunderstanding‘ with the bar’s branding (i.e. it was identical to that of Andrew McConnell’s highly successful Melbourne restaurant Cutler & Co). The Wilcox team subsequently dropped the ‘& Co’ from their name, and updated the branding to its current glory.
